When ladies' night isn't for all ladies:

I think that this is very unfair & upsetting for the girls that such things are happening in Singapore.
Furthermore, there shouldn't be such discrimination in our today's society as every girl deserves the same treatment regardless of age.
The government is convincing that Singapore is a multi racial & multi ethnic society. They kept saying that there are no discrimination in our society when things such as these kept happening everywhere around us.
How then, are we supposed to respond to such a thing ?

paWESLEY- Comment on age and gender discrimination.

I think that it is very unfair and upsetting to the girls as they should not be restricted by heir age. the society should not discriminate against the older girls as one will grow old eventually. Furthermore, these people should just should do away withe the gender and age discrimnation. As in our society the discrimnation may turn into hatred which may be bad for everyone.

I feel that the nightspot should not do this to these older women, in this case it affects women over the age of 35.
The writer is trying to tell the readers that one should not discriminate because of their age.
The nightspot does not have the right to refuse free drinks to women over the age of 35 on ladies' nights. As long as she is a women , she will have the right to free drinks that night.
I feel that older women will face discrimination more often than older men as the majority defines female beauty as youth. Therefore the younger you are, the more beautiful you are.

JEANETTE'S COMMENTS -

The writer's point in this article is that it is unfair that older women are being discriminated, either by age or by gender. The local nightspot has the right to refuse the woman over 35 the free drinks but I feel that it is very unfair. I feel that there should be such laws against discrimination. I don't get it why older men do not face the same discrimination as older women. If a family member or relative of mine told me that they couldn't get a job as they were too old or they preferred men, I would get mad at the person who rejected my family member or relative and ask he/she why he/she made such a decision which is so unfair.

For me, i feel that the writer's point is that the 55-year old women is being discriminated and that it is okay. To me, i feel that the local nightspot has the right to refuse women over 35 to free drinks on ladies night because they own the bar. You see, old women shouldn't be partying. Especially a 55-year old mum. She should know her bounderies and limitations. In this ever changing society, standards are set by men. And honestly, beauty is equated with youth and appearance plays an important factor in effect with older women. Why cant a older women who has more income, money and experience, pay for her own drinks?

I feel that the local nightspot should not refuse women who are above the age limit because nevertheless, they are still women. I think that the age limit can be lifted to suit women of all ages, young or old. Law against discrimination should be implemented to prevent racial and gender discrimination. I do not think that older women face a double whammy beucase in Singapore, everyone is fair and has a stand.

the writer is trying to say that the 55-year-old woman was discriminated in the nightspot.

i think that singapore is moving towards the western countries, where woman must take care of their appearances or they will be heavily discriminated by people.

2. no. but to attract men and women to the nightspot. such act has to be made. i understand their age requirement, but it is because they are under economic stress, they have to do it. but i do not think law should be reinforced for this.

in all. i do not think law should be inforced for age discrimination or gender discrimination as it is not very common or serious in Singapore. but if there are serious conflicts, laws should be inforced.

Some equalists believe that certain feminists have abandoned notions of equality, and instead focus only on females' rights to the point of excluding/promoting the subjugation of the rights of other sexes/genders. Equalists seek to promote the rights of females, males, and everything in between.

"Gender equity", "gender equality", "sexual equality", or gender egalitarianism is the belief in the equality of the gender or the sexes. Many followers of this philosophy would like to see this term come to replace feminism or masculism, when used to describe a belief in basic equal rights and opportunities for members of both sexes within legal, social, or corporate establishments. They strive for ultimate fairness, and seek cooperative solutions so as to make things better for both males, females and everything in between. They are opposed both to misogyny and misandry, pointing to a gender transformative perspective and the need for a rejection of all forms of gender oppression and stereotypes.

i think that a 55 year old women shouldnt be partying at this old age as partying may spoil her health, esp when she's already 55. she should be doing what a senior citizen should normally do and not go partying.

WESLEY- When goods bear bad sons

i feel that the quote ' good wombs bear bad sons' is wrong as what a becomes in the future is not his mum's fualt or her reponsibility. it is the person's actions. I think that everyone should be reponsible for their own wrongdoings and not put the blame on their parents.

The local nightspot has a right to refuse women of certain age as the place is owned by them and rules can be set according to their likes.

However, I do not support this action. Since it has been mentioned as 'Ladies' Night', shouldn't it be welcomed to all ladies? Why should age be a problem?

If it is really meant for women below 35, why not name the night as 'Ladies-below-35 Night'? It would be more clear for all ladies who wish to visit the nightspot.

Being turned away at the entrance is also not a pleasant experience. It is also very embarrassing for the person who has been turned away.

I do not think that old women should be turned away because of their age because some 'old' women could be hot for their age, whereas not all women below 35 are good-looking, making them not eligible for entrance too.

1. The writer's point in this article is that the 55 year old woman is being discriminated and age/sexism discrimination is a pertinent issue in our society these days.

2.Ladies above 35 should be allowed free drinks at their own expense. However, it is not advisable for them to drink as their health is compromised and they are put at a risk. If they should want to drink, the nightspot will not be held responsible for their safety and health, should anything happen to them.Older woman are not in any way lousier than younger woman and thus should be given equal rights.

3.I agree to some extent that woman face a double whammy on discrimination as they not only face discrimination on age, they also face sexual discrimination. Men do not face such as they are seen as competent despite their age and will unliikely be faced in such a situation.

4. They are at the short end of the stick as they are not allowed free drink if they are above 35 and they are not allowed to nightclubs.

5. Machinery work
Prostitutes
Gigolos
6.I think that age discrimination is more prevalent in Singapore than sexual discrimination as the old are not allowed to many priveledges such as nightclubs and game centres. Sexual discrimination is not as prevalent as only jobs face such discrimination.
